Why Traditions Matter?
As we approach the end of the year, we wanted to highlight the importance of traditions. Traditions help bring extra value and meaning to our lives. This month we celebrate new and old friendships and heartwarming smiles that give us hope and inspiration as we enter 2021.
Hey there. Steve Whewell with ExcellED Montessori. Today’s topic…Why Traditions Matter
What do you think of most when I say the words…positive childhood memories?
Many responses will likely be tied to Family traditions.
Family meals, family singing time, bedtime stories, family game night
Why are family traditions so powerful?
Because traditions contribute a sense of comfort and belonging. Traditions reinforce family values.
Traditions create lasting memories.
One particular tradition on a Montessori campus is the Peace rose.
The rose sits on a shelf in the classroom. When there’s conflict, one child will get the rose and take it to another. Whoever holds the rose speaks while the other listens. A few days ago, we had a young boy accidentally bump into another student and hurt her. On his own, he took the peace rose to her and apologized. It was a precious moment to witness as they modeled how we ought to behave as adults.
And the smiles at the end?…priceless.
What are your family traditions? Please comment and share with us and help us pass on some positive vibes with one another.
